This Corvair did 173mph with a n/a 3 liter motor....carbureted! Once again curious to the classes, i’m exploring what older metal is also slippery metal. SCTA rules breaks that “classic” group down to cars from 1928-1981. Is there a master list of all cars and their Cd? I’ve only found very limited partials.

78 and up, probably. I know the third gens were OK/decent.

yeah Roadkill/HotRod Magazine uses one for that. I’m looking for a resource of all kinds to pick from. I’ve found the Porsche 928 started life in ‘78 or ‘79 (cd .34) and the 924 in ‘76. (cd .36) which fit the group, but what else is out there? Does a Triumph gT6 have low numbers or was a Chevy Nova actually aero? Im too curious.

Windshields are pretty vertical on second-gen F-bodies.

I would bet a Pantera is great for this.

Saab 93, it’s actually more aerodynamic than later saabs with a drag coefficient of about 0.31. I think this one held the record for its engine class before being beaten by a Honda S600, but recently another Saab regained the record.

Also there is a pretty large list on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_drag_coefficient#Typical_drag_coefficients
Not sure how well sourced it is though.

True, and at least they do have some kind of functional spoilers unlike a lot of older cars. I do know from personal experience that a ‘79 Camaro gets scary light in the front at high (>130mph*) speed without its front chin spoiler.
*In my defense I was on a runway at the time.

He uses a 78-81 Camaro not a firebird

Surprisingly they are not, front engine cars work better to keep the weight on the nose, other wise the cars can get very light in the nose and easier to crash at high speeds.

Early 50s stidebakers are a common sight on the slat flats. Most muscle cars are bricks in the wind. Same with a lot of early post war fat fender cars. Early hot rods were a main stay, 33/34 fords have been popular in the flats as well.

Not old, but a well used original Honda Insight or Toyota Prius should be great, both have very low cd and all that really matters is the shell, as you’ll change/modify everything else anyway & they’re getting pretty cheap with some decent running ones (of each - though usually pretty high miles) can be found for less than $3500. Plus if you’re just starting out, great way to get started, build some skills with a slow car & then modify further as $$$, time and passion/priority permit

I don’t know about a master list, but this guy’s stories are fun. A Boattail Riv pushing for 200MPH!

Really? The corvair isn’t front engine though unless you are including that in this as well.

I am incliding the Corvair, You could use a rear or mid engine car but your going to be adding lead up front and other aero mods to put downforce on the nose.
